Drive Erasure & Disposal
Manage your data security risk with secure disposal of hard drives.
Federal laws and governmental regulations require organizations to follow specific guidelines for protecting confidential information and disposing of technology assets. Publicly held companies, financial, and healthcare organizations, among others, must adhere to formal and secure processes to manage the disposal of data and hard drives. Improper management of confidential data can not only expose a company to legal, financial, and public relations risks, but it can also jeopardize the security of proprietary corporate data and intellectual property.
Vista IT Group offers a practical, cost-effective method that ensures disk wiping compliance for organizations subject to the following regulations:
- Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (Financial Services)
- Sarbanes Oxley
- ACTA (Federal & Accurate Credit Transaction Act)
Vista also works with organizations not governed under federal regulations, who want to assure the confidential information of their employees and customers is not inadvertently disclosed through disposal or redeployment of its hard disk drives. With effective management of hard drives, organizations are enables sell, redeploy or scrap their drives without risk of exposing private information.
Hard Drive Erasure
Vista IT Group deploys a NIST compliant software-based method of overwriting the data, which completely destroys all electronic data residing on a hard disk drive or other digital media.
Hard Drive Destruction
If your organization wants to permanently destroy its hard drives to a completely unusable state, Vista uses an industrial shredder to ensure physical destruction of the drive. Destroyed drives are recycled in an environmentally safe manner.
Documented Confirmation and Audit
Upon completion of either hard drive erasure or destruction, you will receive a Hardware Asset Management Report that:
- Identifies the drives erased (by brand, serial number, and size).
- Provides erasure information (status, number of passes, and bad sectors) for each drive.
- Identifies the source of the equipment (if applicable).
This information is exported to you in print or electronic form, with a copy maintained in our system on your behalf. For clients choosing hard drive destruction, the Hardware Asset Management Report is accompanied by digital photos of the physically altered hard drives.
