The VMware transition to Broadcom’s software division has been rapid and, given the speed and complexity of the transition, communication has been complex and confusing.

What Do You, The Customer, Need to Know?
In short, don’t panic. VMware and their products are not ending. We just need some patience.
First, the VMware partnership program is being terminated and those partners need to apply to become Broadcom partners. This has caused a lot of confusion because although a VMware partner can provide their customers with a quote, the quote will become invalid when their partnership does. Unfortunately, the VMware by Broadcom partnership details have not been finalized, so quoting isn’t even possible through the program yet. It’s annoying for everyone involved, but fortunately, it’s a short-term problem. The new partnership details are scheduled to be finalized by late February when we should know the new normal and everything should be back on track.
Second, the leadership at VMware by Broadcom decided to accelerate VMware’s pre-existing plans for moving to a subscription model. VMware had most of these subscription packages in place already or ready to be released. As of February, perpetual licensing will not be available, and all customers will be forced into the subscription model. For many customers, this will be frustrating and for a few it may result in higher costs. However, VMware is also introducing licensing changes with the subscription model that they believe will result in lower overall costs.
As of this writing, we’re not aware of any major product discontinuations. Perpetual SKUs are going away completely, vSphere Essentials is going away (Essentials Plus is still available), and the packaging changes mean some products will be offered in different ways.
