Your Options for Veeam Licensing Changes and Price Increases

Veeam Universal License

Recently, Veeam announced the end-of-sale of per-socket perpetual licenses for Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup Essentials, and Veeam ONE. Unfortunately, this change will affect both new and existing customers for all editions starting on July 1, 2022.

What options do customers have?

  • Buy new socket-based-licensing until June 30, 2022, renew maintenance, and continue using the estate of sockets
  • Migrate to Veeam Universal License (VUL)

What are the feature differences?

The new VUL license offers significant feature enhancements above and beyond what has been available from the per-socket licensing. Below is a table detailing the specifics.

Should we all panic?

No, some customers will be just fine and many will actually benefit from VUL licensing. They will have access to all available Veeam features, production level support, increased portability, and CAPEX savings. However, others might be in for a shock. Migrating from socket to subscription VUL licenses may not calculate in your favor. You could see overall licensing costs increases, but don’t go rethinking your backup strategy yet. Migrating to another service provider can be even more costly. We can help you evaluate the options and identify what path makes the most sense for your business.
